Scholarships to the conference are available and awarded on a first-come-first-served basis with the requirement that recipient pays the first $50 of her registration fee. The scholarship award will cover the balance. The Woman's Journey Board awards scholarships to the conference with the triangle of recovery in mind: Recovery, Service, and Unity.
Recovery The scholarship application is to help the Woman's Journey Board get to know applicants and to understand where they are in their recovery journey. Scholarships are awarded to women who are actively working an AA and/or Al-Anon program. The scholarships are generally awarded on a first-come-first-served basis more with an eye towards need, rather than merit. We would like the applicants to be honest, open-minded, and willing.
Service We encourage scholarship recipients to volunteer for service opportunities during the conference weekend. It is not a "payment" but an opportunity to experience the paradox of "we have to give it away to keep it."
Unity Who receives a scholarship award is considered a private matter and is never announced at the conference. We ask that women who have received a scholarship in the past not apply again so that women who have never attended the conference have a chance to experience the Woman's Journey.
How many scholarships awarded for any particular year of the conference is completely dependent on funds available, so the same number of scholarships may not be awarded year-to-year. Funds for scholarships are raised through donations given by participants when they register and through the sale of raffle tickets during the conference.
